Heading West

In the recent days I've been enjoying Sydney, and the friends that I've made here, because on Tuesday I fly out to Perth, which is the capital of Western Australia. Australia is roughly the size of the U.S. so the distance between Sydney to Perth is about equal to that of New York to L.A. I have heard nothing but good things about out west, although it is far less traveled than the east coast. It will be nice to get off the beaten track for a bit and see some parts of Australia that many people do not. Went to the horse track the other night with Jordan, and other YHA dwellers. Good times, although it couldn't hold a candle to Belmont. I didn't win any money though, so in that respect it reminded me of Belmont. The following night we went to see an Aussie Rules Football game. "Footie" as they say, is similar to Rugby but a bit different. Same sort of concept. We watched the Sydney Swans beat the Geelong Cats. Our seats were great because we were in the Swan section, but right on the border of the Cats fan section so we got to see some pretty fired up Aussies go at it. It just so happens that the swans victory song is the same as Notre Dame's Fighting Irish. For a second there, I thought I was in South Bend. Then I realized there were no Meehans with me.

Thanks for the picture of my son, Jordan. It's great to read about your adventures because I can find out what Jord is up to.
